Miaow Miaow (here). Well, well. Yet another young new band to have emerged on the York Music Scene in the last few years, Miaow Miaow are successfully injecting their own brand of synth pop.

The four-piece consisting of Aled Haywood, Pete Wise, Mikey Donnelly and Jim Green describe themselves as ‘post-punk meets electro-pop’, and that’s exactly what they are, minus their MySpace declaration of “sounding surprisingly like cats”. ‘LADVENTURIN’ sounds like THE soundtrack to a hedonistic night-out with every possible party preconception squished into a Skins episode teaser. Synth drums alongside a Franz Ferdinand killer guitar lick could sway even the most sceptical of electro music. New offering ‘Tiger Suit’ features such delightfully quirky catchy lyrics such as “Animal, vegetable or mineral” and ‘My Brains, Your Brawn’ is a cheekily fun, pop track- a whimsical journey if you will into plucky keyboard solos and Metronomy-esque vocals. A genius cover of Daniel Bedingfield’s ‘Gotta Get Thru This’ is a superb treat and displays a band unashamed to declare influences and surprise us with the unlikeliest of musical sources.

Contemporaries of Fawn Spots and admirers of Fist Full of Yen, the band are rooted in the culture of York’s music scene. A recent premiering at a free show in London sees them returning oop north to record some new songs which will no doubt be made available at all the online musically reputable outlets they regulate.

For fans of Everything Everything (both bands clearly flying in the face of ‘Delete Repeated Word’), the eight songs provided for your delight on MySpace offer us glimpses of what’s in store and new shows are teasingly planned for April in York and beyond.
