If you’re pretty sick of moping around town with nothing to do, especially in the rain then you’re going to be pretty pleased with some of York Youth Council’s upcoming work. The Youth Council has been trying to get a building to host a youth café for a long time, a place where you can sit inside away from the horrible British weather and have a drink or a bite to eat with you friends. The Youth Council also want a space for young people to get creative a place where you can have band rehearsals, gigs, film nights or even a drama space. And finally they think they have found a great building in a perfect location.
Bar Lane Studios has been working with the Youth Council and this could be a great venue to run the café, but the Youth Council need your help. If you are aged between 11 and 19 we would like to invite you to Bar Lane Studios throughout August to tell us what you want to buy, how you want it to look and what type of events young people in York want.
Thursday 9 August 1-4pm Bar Lane Studios the Youth Council would like you to come along to help decide how the cafe will look inside.
Thursday 16 August 1-4pm Bar Lane Studios decide what will be on the menu and work with designers to create information for the cafe
Thursday 23 August 1-4pm Bar Lane Studios look at what events and activities are going to be on the programme and create the brand with a local artist
Thursday 30 August 1-4 at Bar Lane Studios finalising the brand and information boards planning the opening night and the programme for the first month
If you would like to be involved please come along to any of these nights as the Youth Council would love all input from other young people.
The location is excellent as it’s easy to get to as its right in the middle of town, near public transport and not down a million side streets either. Hopefully the basement will also be used as a place for bands to practise as the sound proof walls and ceiling will stop parents or neighbours complaining.
The art gallery that is currently in Bar Lane Studios will stay. Things need to move around a bit so we have some space to put extra tables and sofas in, but you will still be able to look at the art and if your an artist yourself you might even be able to show case some of your own.
