City have triumphed at Wembley today in the FA Trophy final against Newport County in what it turning out to be a wonderful finale to the Minstermen’s season.
As the final whistle blew and Gary Mills punched the air in delight in front of the thousands of York fans who made the journey South today, and well he might as his team triumphed 2 – 0 in the first of two trips to Wembley this season.
After a nervy first half in which the majority of chances went to Newport, who, by rights should probably have been in front by the interval. But for anyone who has ben following City lately knows, it’s the second half where they come to life, and today was no exception. Once again it was Matty Blair to the rescue with a finish lifted over the Newport keeper to put City ahead. The fans began to believe that this could be their day, and when Oyebanjo tapped home from Chambers’ cross City had two hands firmly on the trophy.
As Captain Chris Smith lifted the trophy to the delight of the fans, thoughts have already turned to next week’s play-off second leg against Luton, but confidence is high as are the spirits of the loyal City fans having the time of their lives this afternoon in Wembley!
