Stuart GouldenA York woman is urging locals to host their own charity coffee morning as it’s a great way to get to know your neighbours.
Helen Gardner has taken part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for the last ten years and got involved as she had just moved to the local area and wanted to break the ice with her neighbours.
Now the practice nurse, from Clifton Moor, is urging local people to get involved in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning by signing up to host a coffee morning event, as it’s a great way to raise money for charity and meet more people in your local area!
“It’s the ideal opportunity to catch up and raise money for charity. Plus it’s easy to take part, just put the kettle on and make a few cakes!”
All of the money raised from the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will help the charity continue to make a difference to people living affected by cancer in North Yorkshire and will help fund local Macmillan services and professionals including nurses, GP’s, dieticians, social workers, benefits advisors and information managers.
This year the charity is hoping even more people will hold a coffee morning on Friday 28th September to help change the lives of people affected by cancer.
York’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning intern Sally Backhouse, said: “We are very grateful to Helen for all her fantastic support over the years. I hope she inspires other people from York to take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this year.
“Being part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a piece of cake! It’s a great way to get together with your loved ones and make time for what really matters. You can sign up to host a coffee morning, you can go to a public event, or if you’re not free on the day, you can make a donation online. We also have lots of fun ideas to help make your event a real success whether it’s at home, work or at school. Every pound raised helps us be there for someone with cancer when they need us most.”
Helen is holding her coffee morning on Saturday 15th September from 10.30am until 12.30, at Meadow View Huby, all are welcome.
