The Arts Barge project have dedicated the last few years into bringing us an Arts Centre moored onto the banks of the river Ouse. Last year saw the endless possibilities of what this venue could offer when they showcased the dream for the month of July. With a mixture of artists, musicians and performers they offered something for everyone; a licensed bar on board and an array of entertainment; ranging from cabaret to open mic. The success of the project left many on tenterhooks as to whether this could be a permanent fixture for our city.
The idea of the Barge not only appeals to the Artisic sector of the community but also to the governmental authorities as it adheres to the City of York Council’s report ‘Making Use of York’s Rivers and River Banks’ . The project has also been implicated in the plans for a permanent media Art’s Centre .
The group are kicking off 2012 with ‘For Love and Money’, one of their fringe showcases with the objective of raising money towards making the Barge a permanent reality.
The event will take place at The Crescent Working Man’s Club on Blossom Street on Saturday 11th February, starting at 8pm and finishing around midnight. Tickets can be bought here.
The group suggest that we ‘Bring big hearts and dancing shoes’ for a night beginning with fun filled salsa dancing and then followed by a show at 9pm.
We really hope that the Artsbarge event is a success and to see some familiar faces there on the night.
