City of York Council has announced they are launching two new free activity classes for young job seekers. This is the first time a free fitness programme will be run in York for unemployed 16-25 year olds. It’s proven that regular exercise can build self-esteem, whilst improving general health and help people keep a positive mental attitude, and as most people know, looking for a job can be stressful.

The two activities to be run are Football sessions and Zumba classes which have been set up to support young people in a fun and friendly environment, while they are looking for work. The new sessions are funded by Sportivate and start week beginning 14 May and run for six weeks. Zumba Classes are held every Tuesday at 11:45 am for an hour and football sessions will be held every Wednesday at 1:00 pm for an hour. Both classes are to be held at York RI Club in Acomb.

If you attend the course you will receive a money off voucher for either a fitness or coaching qualification. This is a great opportunity for people to gain an extra qualification at a discounted price, whilst adding further skills to their CV, which could help improve job prospects.

If you want any more information on these new sessions contact Robin Lavin, City of York Council, robin.lavin@york.gov.uk or call 01904 553377.
