On our doorstep sits everybody’s favourite little festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend in Galtres and despite the “changeable” weather of late the organisers have promised their event will go ahead.
They’re fully prepared for whatever the heavens throw at them, with a load of carefully-planned contingency measures including trackway, tonnes of straw, new parking areas, and shiny new wellington boots.
“We’re made of tougher stuff than some of those poncy festival organisers who scarper at the first sight of a cloud. We’ve spent the last 12 months putting together the most fantastic programme of music, theatre, comedy, cabaret and fun stuff – and it would be criminal not to let it go ahead,” said festival organiser James Houston.
“Besides,” added James, whispering this time, “we all know it’s going to be proper sunny in August. Secretly, I’m really only worried that the Wedge Wellies stall won’t do much trade. … unless they sell fancy flip flops too.”
Ash, aka “ultimate singles band”, will be celebrating their 20th anniversary in North Yorkshire, headlining Saturday night on the main Duke Stage. Ash officially formed in 1992, reportedly having taken their name from the first word they liked in the dictionary. They will be supported by the Guillemots.
The Buzzcocks are set to be the Friday night’s headliners, with 1980s sensation Adam Ant & The Good The Mad And The Lovely Posse will be tying things up with buckets of new romantic flair on the Sunday.
Also set to play over the weekend are Simon & Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene, Hope & Social, Ellen & The Escapades, Billy Bragg, Seth Lakeman, The Men They Couldn’t Hang, The Traveling Band, Chris Helme and a whole host of local acts largely sourced from the acoustic and ska scenes.
Galtres Festival is a charitable enterprise promoting original live music, dance and performance whilst encouraging local produce such as beer and food suppliers creating a safe and structured environment for families and young children.
