Best make the most of it right? The ideal opportunity to do so is just around the corner. York’s Ice Factor skating rink has been a runaway success throughout much of the noughties and beyond, attracting a staggering 45,000 visitors last year, both from York and further afield. Representing pretty much our only opportunity to enjoy a spot of (presumably clumsy) ice-skating, barring an expensive and – let’s face it – undesirable trip to Doncaster Dome or somewhere similarly distant, the Ice Factor is a unique and increasingly central part of York’s Winter entertainment industry.

This year it’s coming wrapped up in an especially festive package, the Winter Wonderland at MacArthur Glen Designer Outlet. Alongside the core Ice Factor attraction, the season-long event Promises a Santa’s grotto (how they secured his exclusive presence we cannot be sure), an illuminated forest with reindeer, a café bar offering sloe gin, and a beautiful centre-piece in the form of a thirty foot Christmas tree. The Winter Wonderland is set to open from November 26th until January 6th, so there’s ample opportunity for you to enter into the spirit of things and pay a visit.
