The Hyena Lounge Comedy Club, York brings you the crème de la crème of the world’s stand up comedy circuit in the Basement Bar at City Screen.

Hosting some of the UK’s biggest names in York’s most intimate venue Hyena’s back catalogue includes the likes of Andi Osho, Robin Ince and The Boy with Tape on His Face. This weekend’s line-up will be no exception.

This Saturday has seen a couple of alterations to the line-up but still boasts some of the UK’s biggest talents including the dry, slick and subtle stand-up of James Redmond. Delivering unexpected twists and turns during, Redmond is best known for his earlier roles in BBC’s Casualty and Channel 4’s teen soap Hollyoaks.

Continuing the night of stand-up is razor sharp comic Barry Dodds who replaces Dana Alexander from the original line-up. Dodds has forged an enviable reputation for himself over the past few years, charming audiences, with his uniquely tailored combination of disarming Geordie wit and wry down-to-earth observational humour. Another change in the line up includes the introduction of Lloyd Griffith, replacing Andrea Hubert as the third act on the bill. Having only been a comic for the last three years Griffith has already tipped for stardom having played his part in the Big Value show of last year’s Edinburgh Festival. This year he returns as part of the prestigious AAA show. And if that still isn’t enough to convince you, Danny Deegan will be this week’s host. The York based razor sharp Mancunian has wicked witticisms that belies his fresh-faced boy band demeanour and a shed load of brutally funny anecdotes. His tales of mischief and well crafted characters have kept audiences all over the country enthralled.

Following the first night, Sunday’s double bill of hour-long shows ahead of this year’s Edinburgh Festival features the uniquely gifted magic entertainer Pete Firman and Welsh stand-up and writer Lloyd Lanford who has his fingers in many TV pies including Live at the Apollo, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and The King is Dead. The show is in two halves and is part of the Edinburgh Preview Season showcasing brand new routines for this year’s Fringe.

The Hyena Lounge Comedy Club has a long standing reputation for bringing the best comedians form the UK and international comedy circuit and is now in its 11th sell out year and will continue to bring outstanding comedic talent to the area.
