If you’re a fan of festivals but not a fan of swapping your own bed for a sleeping bag then YO1’s 2012 one-day InsideOut festival might be the one for you. YO1 Events is a collection of the city’s promoters, musicians and artists who are coming together to create an event featuring music from the past, present and future. The affordable InsideOut festival will be held in a combination of indoor and outdoor spaces, within the confines of the well-suited venue that is Askham Bryan College in York. The festival is just one of many events that have been organised as part of the York 800 celebrations.

Live music will range in sound and taste as the festival is home to four stages to be hosted by familiar faces of York and here at One&Other we are proud to reveal some of the acts that will be gracing those stages this June.
The Duchess Live Music Venue who will be hosting the main stage with headlining act Young Knives who re-raised their trio of bonces last year with the release of their third, and most complete record, ‘Ornaments From The Silver Arcade’. Other acts to take to the stage include; The Crookes, Stephanie Min, The History Of Apple Pie and The Herman Dune. Expect anything from indie, pop & all that’s in-between!

Stage Two will be hosted by York University’s “hipster read” Circulation Magazine. As the magazine aims to focus on the more cutting edge side of the music scene, the stage will be showcasing singer songwriters, new folk and acoustic acts. In the early part of the day singer songwriters and folk artists take the lead and include Liz Green, Joseph & David and Serious Sam Barrett before headlining DJ set from Craig Charles of Red Dwarf fame to close the stage. Craig is quickly becoming one of the hottest properties in the funk & soul scene, with his BBC Radio 6 show gaining plaudits from the music world and listeners alike, stage two is in for a treat!

The dance scene will be fully represented across two of the events venues, with local house heroes Freakin hosting Stage Three. Freakin is a long established house music night in York that caters for the underground and is fast approaching its 15th Birthday. The Freakin hosted stage will see Will Saul, the producer & Dj behind Simple Records/Aus Music, take to the turntables and is sure to set the dance floor alight! Back up comes from up and coming Dj/ Producer Craig Bratley and many other well-known faces from York.

The final stage is hosted by Irie Vibes Sound-system, and also featuring Breakz, Herbal Mafia and Substance, this stage will have a mix of bass styles from roots and dubstep, to drum & bass The mighty Channel One Soundsystem, stalwarts of the Notting Hill carnival, and arguably one of the best reggae Soundsystems in Europe,  with headline on the Irie Vibes Soundsystem stage, along with Bristol bass pioneer Rob Smith aka RSD and drum & bass duo Benny Page B2B with Zero G.

So there is the music side of things, but there will be plenty more to keep you entertained on the day:
York Does Vintage will be hosting a gorgeous vintage event for all ages within InsideOut; expect glamour, beauty, dancing, music, vintage inspired workshops, and of course exciting and fabulous vintage stalls.
The Best of British Jubilee tent will have a fine selection of locally sourced real ales & a Pimms bar, hosted by Wold Top Brewery & The Fox pub; plus the wonderful Tea Shop, with a sumptuous selection of tea & cakes served on beautiful vintage china.

The Delicious Yorkshire farmers market will be onsite, so expect a higher standard of festival food as it replaces kebabs with a tasty array of locally produced delights and scrummy hot treats.
If you’re thinking this all sounds great but ‘what’s there for kids to do?’ then think no further. York’s own Art Barge Project and Bar Lane Studios based Wrong Side of the River Collective and the Division of Spectacular Tasks will providing a fantastic and affordable program of fringe entertainment and free workshops for kids. Never forgetting the younger audience YO1 events will also offering a variety of rides, free inflatables and free face painting for all children 12 years and under.

Sound like a lot?
