BOOTLEGGER BONANZA – CITY SCREEN ‘LAWLESS’ COMPETITION
Lawless, the second collaboration between acclaimed director John Hillcoat and singer-songwriter-screenwriter Nick Cave, follows the lives of the infamous Bondurant brothers, successful bootleggers during Prohibition-era Franklin County, Virginia.
But success doesn’t come easy. Family loyalty is put to the test when Jack (Shia LaBeouf), Forrest (Tom Hardy) and Howard (Jason Clarke) have to deal with mobsters (Gary Oldman’s Floyd Banner), rival gangsters, and the law in their fight to continue the family business. When the Bondurant gang is threatened by the arrival of Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce), a psychotic new deputy who wants a cut of their profits, a new war breaks out with deadly consequences.
As well as writing the screenplay (based on Matt Bondurant’s 2008 novel The Wettest Country in the World about his grandfather and great uncles), Nick Cave has scored the film with Bad Seeds-member Warren Ellis. The result is a hard-edged, brutal, stylish, star-studded gangster film with a great soundtrack.
To celebrate the release of Lawless, City Screen York is teaming up with One&Other to offer cinema-goers the chance to win a limited edition Lawless bootlegger jug! Not only that, but the winner can fill it with a draft ale or lager of their choice on the house, all before settling down to watch the film! Tasty.
So if you fancy whetting your whistle, email City Screen (cityscreenyork@picturehouses.co.uk) with the title LAWLESS COMPETITION and say in 25 words or less why you would like this limited edition bootlegger jug. Don’t forget to include a phone number!
Lawless opens this Friday at City Screen (here)
