We Could Be Astronauts, a 5 piece rock band from York, are taking to crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo to raise the necessary money to release their debut album.

Two years in the making, the album has already been written, recorded, and mixed at the band’s own expense.  However, We Could Be Astronauts are looking to their fans in the final stages as they prepare the mastering of 500 copies, which comes at a cost of £1,186, and its subsequent launch.

In exchange for pledging donations, fans can claim perks such as tickets to an exclusive gig on 12 October, signed hard copy 12 track digipak version of the album plus full range of We Could Be Astronauts badges and a limited edition band poster.

The goal is to raise at least $2,330 by 4 September 2012, with the band approaching the halfway point at $1,018.

Speaking about the campaign, the band said: “We believe that music is a combination of talent, passion and incredibly hard work. Bands that are just discovered straight away never last long and are quickly forgotten. A band that works for their music and gives each performance all the energy they have is never forgotten.

“We have been working our way out of the depths of musical obscurity and are finally starting to break through (Check out the video of us playing the BBC Introducing stage at this years T in the Park).

“This album will aid us in getting even further in our dream of mastery of the universe.”
