If you’re proud of your city then why not get involved with City of York Council’s Love Where You Live campaign. The campaign will be holding six community litter picks and awareness events over the next month in a drive to help improve your local environment.
Though it may not be the most glamorous of ways to show your love for your neighbourhood, it will certainly benefit communities all over the city and help to raise awareness surrounding the many ways members of the public can improve their local environments. Councillor Dafydd Williams, Cabinet member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “This is a brilliant way to bring together lots of people from the local community in a way which will benefit the community and help to make it a nicer place.”
Other events that will take place include the council’s Street Environment Service will be holding a litter awareness event at York College that will go ahead on 20 April. Later that day, Westfield Primary School will hold its own mini litter picking event in and around the Grange Lane play area to show how students there love where they live and are willing to keep up the good work with the help of their street environment officer. Both events aim to educate young people about the effects of litter in hope of leaving a lasting message regarding the maintenance and improvement of local environments.
Tesco employees will also commit to the cause on 21 April to help litter pick around Tadcaster Road, places such as the Cemetery, Bishopthorpe cycle path and Moor Lane.
Litter Picking events to get involved with:
