After a 20 week trading spell York’s Monday Market is to transfer back to its regular location in Newgate.
The maintenance work and welcomed summer clean to the regular 7 day per week Market is almost complete.
Through working closely with the Monday traders it was decided to have a 20 week trading period in Parliament Street on Monday’s, allowing the market to receive a much needed upgrade.
Cllr Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “York markets are a fantastic way for people to start their own business, and now with the maintenance programme on Newgate Market complete, we hope more people will consider it as a place to work and visit.”
Darren Lovatt, Senior Market Officer, said: “The scheme has been a real success all round with the traders capitalising on working on Parliament Street. City of York Council completing this maintenance programme has resulted in a refreshed working environment for the Traders and an enhanced shopping experience for our customers”.
The market will return to Newgate from Monday 17 September.
