York City will make their return to play in the Football League for the first time in 8 years with a home fixture against Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the 2012/2013 season.

The Minstermen, who unveiled their new home and away kits last week, will be looking for a winning start to the season against newly-relegated Wycombe. The match at Bootham Crescent will be York City’s first match in the fourth tier of English football since they were defeated 3-1 by Doncaster Rovers in April 2004 which condemned them to life in the Conference.

However, York City’s 2011 /2012 season ended in great success with two trophy winning victories at Wembley stadium within the space of a week; a 2-0 win against Newport County in the FA Trophy final and the Conference Play-off Final win against Luton Town which sealed their return to the Football League.

Other matches of note for the upcoming campaign include those against Bradford City on Saturday 13 October and Saturday 2 March, away and at home respectively, along with a Boxing Day fixture away at Chesterfield on Wednesday 26 December.

The club’s 2012/2013 season will culminate with an away tie against Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday 27 April, which York City fans will hope will be surrounded by even more success.

Following his instrumental role during the Play-off win against Luton Town, winger and former England youth international Ashley Chambers has agreed to extend his contract with York City by another year. This is the club’s second contract renewal of the summer, after Scott Kerr, Players’ Player Of The 2012 Season, also agreed a year’s extension.

Prior to the new league campaign, York City have also confirmed a pre-season friendly match against Oldham Athletic at Bootham Crescent on July 21st, kicking off at 3pm. More information on this game will be announced through the club within the coming week.

Season tickets for the 2012/2013 season are now on sale, and as of June approximately 500 of these had been sold. Season tickets prices begin at £50 for under-12’s, £115 for under-16’s, £160 for concessions and £255 for adults. Current season ticket holders can also re-new their season tickets for a discounted price, using York City’s Early Bird offer, which is valid until June 29.
