New Years Eve, probably the one night a year where crying and and drinking far too much is perfectly acceptable at parties and even more acceptable in public, especially at the Minster at midnight but nine times out of ten, you always wake up with a terrible headache, a terrible feeling of guilt and you have most likely already broken your new years resolution but don’t worry! We all do.

One thing that you should remember is that New Years Eve is just another night out and what do we all want to do on a night out? Enjoy Ourselves. Don’t get bogged down in timings, with where you need to be when the clock hits 12, where you will go after, how to avoid the crowd etc. Its better to miss midnight surrounded by good company and happiness then walking through a crowded street or crowded bar.

I have only spent New Years Eve out in bars in York twice and every other time I have been at various friends and families houses. Don’t be afraid so staying in, no matter who it is with or what you do. I’m just as happy at home as I am in busy bars and this year I will be in both for New Years but its not where I go that I care about, its who im with.

Most bars and clubs will be charging on New Years Eve so its always a good idea to pop in and see what their plan is to avoid disappointment but don’t pay too much to go into a bar. Id say anything over £10 before midnight is too much as all you will get is a glass of cheap fizz at 12 then most likely go elsewhere after, so will most people in that bar.. After midnight then paying for tickets guarantees you entry on the busiest night of the year so it may be worth while to spend a bit more money to make sure that you enjoy yourselves in your favourite bars, pubs and clubs.

Taxis charge more and dress codes come out in full force on New Years Eve. Remember that.

Remember, New Years Eve is all about celebrating the New Year to come. Some of you, including myself have had low points this year but try to think of the good times that you have had, look at the people around you, smile and think of the good things to come, even if it doesn’t seem like there will be any. There will be.

Remember to eat before you head out, canapes just dont cut it, especially after 4 hours of drinking.  If you pay for a ticket to get into a bar before midnight and the ticket includes free champagne at midnight then remember to get it!

Maybe the last thing, and for me the most important thing to remember except enjoy yourselves and spend time with the important people in your life is to pace yourself. You all want to see in 2012 remember. Bucks Fizz is your friend!

Happy New Years everyone!
