32 years ago today Ian Curtis was found hanging in the home he shared with his wife Deborah; he had used the kitchen washing line to hang himself only 24 years into his life. Jon Savage wrote in his obituary for Curtis in Melody Maker, “Now no one will remember what his work with Joy Division was like when he was alive; it will be perceived as tragic rather than courageous.” Therefore, as opposed to focusing on the downfall of Curtis and what led him to take such drastic action, we focus on the defining moments that he shared with Joy Division. Let the music ring true.

With this in mind here is One&Other’s Top 5 Joy Division tracks.
