Direct from the West End; the sparkling touring production of Grease is now on at The Grand Opera House, York.
The much loved all singing all dancing sensation is still wowing audiences of all ages forty years after its first appearance on Broadway in 1972.
Danny Bayne (winner of ITV’s Grease is the Word) is sensational as Danny Zuko, Carina Gillespie is Sandy. The whole cast are full of infectious energy, they sing and dance bringing a vibrant colourful performance to the grey damp reality of autumn.
With its wonderful pastiche of 1950’s pop culture; Grease strikes a universal chord with its irresistible blending of teenage angst and vibrant physicality. The raw energy of the production is thrilling from beginning to end.
The live band is suspended on a mezzanine, perched high above the stage they keep all the familiar songs rocking along at a relentless pace.
Special guest star this week is X Factor’s Rhydian Roberts as Teen Angel, receiving a warm welcome from the York audience as he belted out Beauty School Dropout.
Grease is a much loved classic with universal appeal that transcends the generations. With its familiar songs and imagery it has become implanted within its own mythology. The film featuring Olivia Newton John and John Travolta reinforces the legend. Grease is voted No.1 of all time according to the official website!
