Applications for the 2012 Saltaire Arts Trail are being welcomed for this year’s event.
The Trail, which runs from 5-7 May combines contemporary art and craft, creative family activities and visual art across an exciting weekend in the world heritage village of Saltaire, West Yorkshire and aims to support the visual arts and diverse communities in and around the village.
Saltaire is already a place rife with famous artistic heritage and is home to a permanent David Hockney exhibition it’s mill.
The weekend has won the support of Arts Council England and has recently been awarded a £10,000 grant through the National Lottery. The Trail which works in partnership with Bradford’s creative development agency, Fabric is looking to commission an artist or group to create a new piece of work to be presented during this year’s event.
Applications are open to contemporary artists in the early stages of their career who live or regularly work in the Bradford area. Artists are required to send a brief proposal, their CV and five images of previous work Ann Rutherford (ann.rutherford@fabricculture.co.uk) no later than Friday 10th February.
Residents of Saltaire are also being encouraged to participate in the event by opening their houses to use as galleries or to volunteer and be part of the team behind the scenes.
Since the launch of the Saltaire Arts Trail five years ago over 200 artists have exhibited their work in over 40 venues across the village. Last year’s event attracted over 7,000 visitors, something the organisers are wishing to beat this year.
“We are delighted that Arts Council England will be investing in Saltaire Arts Trail 2012,” said Creative Director, Amanda Chinneck. “We are very proud to have achieved such a badge of honour, its a great thing for the event and the village. Providing a platform for the presentation of contemporary art and being able to provide resources for artists at the start of their careers is entirely what we are about and we look forward to some exciting results in May 2012.”
