Roll up, roll up! Tickets have now gone on sale for one of the top cinema events in York’s calendar. Following the overwhelming success of their secretive and decidedly quirky outdoor cinema screenings in March 2012 and last summer, Orillo cinema are now setting up shop for their next event in the Minster Gardens on Sunday 22 July.
Orillo Cinema has, in their short but hugely successful history, proved that they like to do things a bit differently. You can forget the idea that cinema means mass hoards of popcorn munchers crushed inside a dark auditorium to see the latest hyped-up blockbuster- for Orillo, cinema needs a bit of the unexpected. That’s why Orillo like to take their fans on a little treasure hunt for clues, revealing the date and locations of their screening at fairly short notice. As for the film you will be watching, that is entirely down to the great York public.
In true democratic style, a poll has now surfaced on the Orillo Cinema facebook page which allows you to choose between six all-time movie classics. Yet, whatever way you vote, all will kept under wraps until you are settled into the Minster Gardens, snuggled under a picnic blanket, popcorn in hand, ready for those opening credits.
This clandestine outdoor cinema offers high-quality productions that transform the movie-watching experience, allowing the enjoyment of some of today’s finest films with family and friends in an open-air evocative setting. Orillo also offer yummy refreshments at their cinema events from bespoke ice cream flavours to cocktails to mountains of crunchy popcorn.
Overthrowing convention just that little bit more, tickets for the July event will not be of the flimsy paper kind you are expecting. Instead, upon arrival at the event, gain entry by exchanging your ticket for a pair of limited edition sunglasses ready in all optimism for the rays of sunshine to hit York.
