I feel as though I’m forever talking about City Screen. Boasting about it’s unique blend of opera, comedy and cinema. Today is no exception. On Tuesday 4 September they will be showing “SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS: THE VERY LOUD ENDING OF LCD SOUNDSYSTEM”, a documentary about the controversial disbanding of LCD Soundsystem, their final concert, and the aftermath of frontman James Murphy’s decision.
Murphy called time on LCD Soundsystem when they were seemingly at the top of their game, announcing that their celebrated 2010 album: “This is happening” would be their final release. The film documents their final concert in Madison Square Gardens, a four hour epic which sold out instantly. The screening begins at 8.40 with red carpet footage from the premiere and is followed by a satellite audience with James Murphy.
Whether you’re an LCD Soundsystem fan in need of some nostalgia, or simply a fan of music, this is surely worth a watch. An adult ticket will cost you £10.20 and you can get one online from their website, or simply by popping in. Go along, and see for yourselves if Neil Young was right when he told us that “it’s better to burn out than to fade away.”
