SNAPPY (Special Needs Activities and Play Provision for York) is a local charity who put the fun into fundraising. While the charity’s aim is to provide good quality play and recreational facilities for children and young people with special needs in York, their fundraising meanwhile influences community events.
With nearly twenty five years of experience under their belt, SNAPPY is a voluntary organisation that runs activities, schemes, and trips for young people with special needs from the ages of 5-25. In order to make this happen, SNAPPY is linked to a wide range of companies and organisations that provide support and fundraising opportunities in and around the city.
SNAPPY endeavours to provide entertaining events for the community while fundraising. Watch out for events popping up around the city, namely the SNAPPY gigs which promise great line-ups and an interesting way to link the arts and fundraising across York. In the Spring you may have seen The White Stuff don their superhero outfits for the cause, while The Hilton have been distributing overnight stays as raffle prizes and Sainsbury’s Burton Stone Lane staff have been dressing up in ludicrous outfits to raise money. Meanwhile, all proceeds of this Autumn’s Community Idol at the Grand Opera House went to SNAPPY, as York went on a quest to find a true local star.
Aside from fundraising antics, SNAPPY’s Club 100 is an initiative which aims to have one hundred companies pledging £100 or more annually to the cause, which would benefit over one hundred young people. Members already include Nestle, Poppleton Garden Centre, and Monks Cross Shopping Park to name a few.
The fundraising events, and Club 100, provide funds for the charity to continue their various clubs: ranging from holiday activities for young children, to regular youth clubs such as the Senior SNAPPY aimed at 15-25 year olds.
