Following on from last years smash hit Hare and Tortoise, the acclaimed tutti frutti are set to celebrate their 21st Birthday with an enchanting new adaptation by leading children’s playwright Mike Kenny of the much loved story Rapunzel.
Produced with York Theatre Royal, the production has been in rehearsals in the theatres De Grey Rooms. It will begin its tour at York Theatre Royal on Thu 27 Sep with a 1.30pm show, before moving to 2 daily shows (11am and 1.30pm, Fridays 1.30pm and 6pm) until Sat 13 Nov.
The delightful tale of Rapunzel tells the story of a girl who is taken away from what she knows and protected from all the things that she loves.
Placed high-up in a tower above the world and faced with the challenge of growing-up, she is found alone, dreaming .
Director Wendy Harris said about the new production In a year where we celebrate our 21st birthday it is such a thrill to be once again working with Mike Kenny on this specially commissioned new play that promises to engage children with wonderful storytelling, strong visual imagery & live music.
Mike Kenny is one of Englands leading writers, specialising in young peoples theatre. He is the recipient of numerous awards, was included in the Independent on Sundays list of Top Ten Living UK Playwrights and his plays are performed regularly throughout the UK and all over the world. His recent works include the Olivier award winning The Railway Children and a new version of The York Mystery Plays which was performed this Summer.
