Three York mascots have thrown down the gauntlet, challenging others to join them in the Just 30 Fair’s very first Mascot Race.  The Fair is organised by City of York Council’s sport and active leisure team, and aims to bring sports and activities to the public.

The Fair will take place on Saturday 15 September in Rowntree Park.  So far 3 mascots have confirmed their place – British Heart Foundation’s Mr Hearty, St Leonard’s Hospice’s Lenny the Bear, and Snappy the Crocodile.

Snappy the Crocodile is challenging others to join in and says ‘We’re looking for more mascots to make this a spectacular obstacle event.  And obviously we’ll be looking for supporters to cheer us on all the way!’

Sonja Crisp, Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism says “Although the Just 30 Fair has now been taking place for 5 years, this is the first time that we’ve held the Mascot Race.  It seems appropriate that in the Olympic year we start a local challenge which is all about fun as well as encouraging fitness.  I’m sure its going to be entertaining to watch!”

The race will be limited to a maximum of 10 mascots and places will be allocated on a first come basis.  It is open to any local mascots from sports clubs, charities and community groups. Any mascot interested in taking part is asked to contact City of York Council’s sports participation officer, Dean Sharp on 01904 553377 or email dean.sharp@york.gov.uk
