York’s flourishing music scene has seen the introduction of nationally and internationally renowned artists including the talents of local boys Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Mark Wynn who’ve graced our stages paving the way for more local talent to follow in their footsteps.
York-natives Officers are the latest band to burst onto the scene supporting electro-legend Gary Numan on his latest UK tour. If that wasn’t enough the duo has also recorded a collaborative charity single with Numan himself in partnership with charity CALM (Campaign for Living Miserably). Founded in 1997 the charity aims to raise awareness and reduce the high suicide rate amongst men under 35. It’s estimated that men are three times more at risk of suicide, contributing to 75 percent of suicides in 2010.
During an interview with Soundsphere Magazine the duo discussed their previous experiences with mental illness and the men are keen to remove the stigma attached to the subject.
Discussing single Petals guitarist Jamie Baker said “As a collaboration it happened for all the right reasons; it’s really organic, and that’s always been important to us.”
This is the first in a series of four videos premiered on The Creative Condition’s website, examining the developing musical relationship between Officers and Gary Numan. Spread the word about this video and the CALM charity by using the hashtag (on Twitter) #numanxofficers.
Dom Smith, Editor of Soundsphere magazine, comments: “I am really pleased with how it has come out, and I am excited to unleash the next few interviews. CALM is a great organisation, and we are very proud to be involved.”
The Creative Condition are a creative content and media production company based in York specialising in lifestyle, arts, business and education
The first part of Soundsphere’s interview is below and the second part will be uploaded here on Friday, July 6 at 1pm with the third and fourth instalments following on July 13 and 20 at the very same time.
