With the weekend getting closer we can all start to contemplate unwinding, enjoying a cheeky few drinks and relaxing into a couple of days off. Baring in mind it is still only September lets make the most out of the cities beer gardens before the big chill really sets in. Sit out, enjoy a good pint and embrace this seasonal change.

1. The Lamb and Lion

Unparalleled for its views of both The Minster and The Walls this is a favourite haunt of many. The beer garden is large with plenty of tables. It is still however packed out, so worth getting your table early on.

2. The Secret Garden (1331)

This is a real treasure and suitable even in the wetter, cooler months. This undercover, heated beer garden offers smokers shelter all year round.

3. Evil Eye

The Evil Eye is not only a hit due to its extensive (well priced) cocktail menu, amazing food and general great atmosphere. It also boasts a fine, walled, covered area with heaters and a retractable cover. Ideal for all seasons!

4. The Habit

With one of the finest views of the Minster in York, this intimate terrace garden looks over the rooftops and is a wonderful sun-trap in the summer. It’s perfect for a late afternoon, early evening drink as the sun goes down.

5. City Screen

Although not technically a beer garden you cannot beat this for outdoor views and vibes. The great selection of beers behind the bar, make for the perfect riverside tipple.
