According to recent survey conducted by search engine Bing, York is Britain’s most beautiful city. This title places York above Bath, Edinburgh, London and Oxford; gaining 17 per cent of the votes. Furthermore, York has also proven to be popular as a living destination as a majority of people asked claimed it is the city they would most like to move to.

Thanks to its historic charm and friendly tendencies, York is a vibrant place both to take residence in and visit. Many local people are unsurprised by the results; attributing them to the unique architecture for which York is renowned, such as the city walls and the minster. The title is affirmed by the millions of tourists who visit York each year to experience the rich tapestry of culture for themselves.

York is hardly lacking in impressive titles, with the Shambles having been named the most picturesque street in Britain and Stonegate and Fossgate ranked in the top 5 streets for fashion and food in other recent surveys. Even the station is not without critical acclaim – one poll in 2010 found it to be the ‘overall station of the year’.

York’s characteristics render it a desirable place to spend time in and sometimes it is important to be reminded of how lucky we are to be part of such a special community.
