This is the first festival of the year for York Residents as part of the York 800 festivities. The festival activities; organised by Visit York, will be taking place on the 28th of January and 29th of January. It is a time of the year when York attractions open their doors to the city’s residents and let them enjoy, for free exctly what the city has on offer. The events are the beginning of a plethora of celebratory events which are due to take place throughout the year around the anniversary date – Monday 9th July – which will play host to a flotilla on the River Ouse and the Ebor Vox. In order to do this people will need their YorkCards; these cards also enable you to get discounts from local shops and restaurants.
To get involved in the Residents Festival and to take full advantage of the deals on offer you must have a YorkCard. To get yourself one you can go to any City of York Library and get one as part of your library card. There is a £2 administration charge, but the cards are free to those under 18 (if you wish to only join the library there is no fee).
Everybody in the household needs their own card, and if you have an old YorkCard – which are any received before February 2011 – they will have to be renewed. The new YorkCards are set to expire on 28th February 2013.
The Residents Festival is all set to be a great event, and to take full advantage of the all the events make sure you get your card sorted in advance.
