This Saturday will see an army of restaurant staff working even harder than usual to please their customers! Local mental health charity York Mind have recruited a number of local eateries to take part in “Tips for Mind” day, where every member of staff will be donating half of the cash tips they receive from satisfied customers to help support local people experiencing mental ill-health.

York Mind’s Fundraising Manager, Ian Savage, said that the charity has been overwhelmed by the response from local restaurants: “One of our volunteers Emma Butler, came up with the idea and spent a bit of time contacting some local eating places to see what response they would get. Almost all of the people she spoke to said they thought it was a great idea, and we’ve had some great items donated to us which we’ll be giving out as prizes to the members of staff who get the most tips!”

So far, the restaurants taking part are: Jamies Italian (Lendal), Evil Eye Lounge (Stonegate), Ask (Blake St), Zizzi (Lendal) Cafe 68 (Gillygate), Loch Fynne (Fossgate), Pitcher & Piano (Coney St) and Ambience (Gillygate).

However Ian was keen to point out that many other eating places in the City had also expressed interest, and the final list of participating outlets was likely to be much greater.

“We’re hoping to have at least 20 restaurants taking part in this great fundraising initiative, and we would like to thank all those who participate very much indeed for their support…especially the staff who are donating half of their tips.”

Any restaurants wishing to join in the campaign this Saturday, should contact Peter Gorbert at York Mind on 01904 643364.
