Favourite time of year:

I love the harshness of an icy winter.

Favourite travel destination:

So far it has to be Berlin.

Secret hideout in York:

By the riverside on a weekend night for a bit of peace and quiet.

Favourite things about living here:

The fusion of a rich history and modern city-living. Shopping, dining and drinking in ancient buildings. Being small enough to bump into people, but big enough to avoid people too! And cycling through the city.

Best bars:

Best insiders tip:

Come in early November to avoid the crowds.

Icon:

Those who stand up for what they believe in; the students at Tiananmen Square, the Bratislavans who stood up in 1968 against the Russian invasion or Nelson Mandela selflessly sacrificing his own freedom to guarantee that of millions.

Best view of the city:

From Clifton Bridge you see the skyline and elements of the city's railway heritage; industrial in the foreground, beautiful in the background.

Favourite shop:

Barnitts!

Best place to eat:

I love the deli board and pork pies in Trembling Madness or Mumbai Lounge for a quality Indian.

This time next year I will be:

Thinking about what i'll be doing next year.

Top 5 bands:

Chemical Brothers, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, early DJ Shadow, Faithless, Neil Diamond.

Favourite era:

The 1990s.

If I was an animal I would be a:

A random creature squashed by the side of the road.

Hi, I’m Dan and I’ve lived in York around 10 years, and I’m now proud to call it my true home. By day I’m a Probation Officer trying my level best to make York a safer and more peaceful place. By night I’m probably doing the opposite enjoying a range of activities to keep the boredom at bay. I love listening to live music and I have recently developed a liking for folk music whilst general acoustic music has been a passion of mine for some time. I have a pointless degree in Tourism from York St John, I love a nice glass of red or real ale as much as I love a cheap pint in a Sam Smith’s pub, I love a great meal down Fossgate, I have a keen interest in travel having lived and worked in France and USA a few years ago, as well as having visited most European countries, I speak French, I love cooking, I love independent cinema and despite having frequented the City Screen countless times casting a lowly shadow watching obscure films, I still don’t have a membership.

I love photography and communist architecture, I’m massively indecisive, I was nearly a professional footballer, I avoid Micklegate between the hours of Friday and Sunday, I sit in cafés watching people in a non-scary way, I’ve perfected stepping around tourists who stop randomly in the street, I don’t really notice the Minster any more, I have a beard I grew by accident
which goes ginger in the sun and my left eye is worse than my right.

I don’t Tweet, but maybe I should.
