The return of the local

Favourite time of year:

Summer evenings, autumn mornings.

Favourite travel destination:

I don’t think I have one. I’d like to go everywhere. Please.

Secret hideout in York:

It won’t be a secret hideout if I tell you. But the wildlife reserve behind my house (Nicholas Fields) is pretty nice.

Favourite things about living here:

The overwhelming ratio of bakeries to people.

Best bars:

The Habit has a real cool rooftop terrace and The Red Lion will always hold a slightly grimy place in my heart for reasons undisclosed.

Best insiders tip:

If you lurk around Dyl’s by the river for long enough, sooner or later someone will bring you free tapas.

Icon:

At difficult moments in my life I ask myself WWBD (What Would Beyonce do?). So I guess she’s my icon.

Best view of the city:

From the Attic bedrooms on Lawrence Street.

Favourite shop:

The Sue Ryder shop on Goodramgate. The best charity shop ever.

Best place to eat:

Il Paradiso. Or Bison Coffee for a hangover brekkie.

This time next year I will be:

Finally finished with my degree, most probably staring into a bleak future of unemployment and poverty.

Top 5 bands:

Bombay Bicycle Club. Jackson 5. Bon Iver. The Smiths. Destiny’s Child (do they count as a band?)

Favourite era:

I should’ve been born in the 1920s.

If I was an animal I would be a:

Slightly peeved badger.

Impoverished York Uni student living some form of the dream. When I’m not in the library I’m probably asleep.

If I was going to pretend to be passionate about something I’d say watching Wes Anderson films, trying to write like Sylvia Plath, making pasta, and getting snobby about coffee.
