It's hard to pick just one season. I love the hopeful air of spring, the freedom that summer brings, the smell of woodsmoke and autumn leaves and the cosyness of winter.

Best insiders tip:
Walking away from the town center, go for a stroll along the river and keep on going - you'll find yourself surrounded by open sky and fields.
Icon:
Leonora Carrington - a painter, who at the age of 21, eloped with Max Ersnt and moved to Paris, hung out with Picasso and Dali, fled the Nazis, escaped from a Spanish psychiatric hospital and later settled in Mexico. She was one of the most bizarrely original, visionary artists and writers of the 20th century.

The Minster Gate Bookshop is fantastic for second hand and rare to find, dusty books on folklore and art.

Favourite era:
I'm torn between the 1920s and the 1960s. Both eras had fantastic style and abounded with revolutionary artists, writers and musicians.

I’ve recently moved back to York to begin a career as a freelance illustrator after graduating from a degree in Illustration at Falmouth.
I draw inspiration from nature and folklore in my work, and hope to conjure a symbolic world of imagination through painting. When not busy bringing new characters to life with either paintbrush or pen, I like to spend my time photographing the things inside my head, making cello sounds, sewing up clothes from clouds and occasionally escaping to far off places through the use of books, birds or trains.
I also edit Magpie Magazine – a collection of art, music and writing. Take a peek here: www.magpiemag.net
