The high concentration of kind, talented and interesting people within a cosily small area. The rare mixture of more-than-adequate nightlife, unique culture and something approaching respectabilty.
Best bars:
The Duchess, Pivni, House of Trembling Madness. I'd love Dusk if all the bar staff were sacked and replaced with people.

Best view of the city:
From the top of the highest hill below the high-rises in the estate in Acomb near the water tower. Panoramic industrial views that speak of a part of York that was pretty prominent until very recently.
Favourite shop:
Purple Haze.
Best place to eat:
Ever New. It's not a restaurant (it's a tiny oriental gift shop at the bottom of Micklegate), but they sell these things called 'Shin Cups'. It's a delicious spicy noodle soup. Imagine a Pot Noodle but good.
