One&Other Presents: Jack Edwards' 'Love & Luck'

30th November 2015

Fresh from his support tour with Echo and the Bunnymen, singer-songwriter Jack Edwards has released Love & Luck, a music video to launch the song and EP of the same name.

Jack - a Yorkshire lad - has teamed up with One&Other Creative and director Nik Morris to produce a short film that speaks to everyone who needs a bit of ‘love and luck.’ The EP, recorded with renowned Leeds producer Andy Hawkins, is raw, muscular and soulful. The songs and arrangements ring with Jack’s influences. You hear the Americana edge of classic Ryan Adams. This is Pearl Jam angst with the northern soul of Sheffield artist Paul Carrack. “I wanted Love & Luck to truly reflect my beliefs,” says Jack, “hence the opening line: ‘This is real life…’” The video for Love & Luck shows a young couple’s struggle to stay hopeful as their lives fall into chaos.

Director Nik Morris: "Jack’s song explores working yourself to the bone, so the story we shot is about two people coping because they have each other. But it’s not sentimental. I can’t say with confidence that you’ll be happy and safe if you work hard and have someone to love. The attitudes and systems you live within aren’t set up that way. So the promo’s final act respects Jack’s message: life is hard and love is great, but you may find that love isn’t all you need.”

"We were inspired by Jack’s song to create something memorable and moving but in a non-sentimental, very real way," says One&Other Creative’s director Vicky Parry. "Between the four of us - myself, director Nik, our cinematographer Ben Bentley and filmmaker Miles Watts - we all shared a desire to not just make a music video to go with the song, but to honour that song by telling a story that really stuck out and affected people: you really care about the young couple in the video."

Jack plans to tour the new EP in 2016.
“I’m excited to go out and play these songs to people. Good songs speak for themselves, and eventually they will be heard. In the last few months, I’ve made peace with myself, knowing that my perseverance will pay off, provided that I keep writing and gigging – and keep moving forward.”

Jack Edwards will also be featured in the new issue of One&Other Magazine, out from the end of November.
