Black comedy feature Whoops! has been selected to screen at this year’s NXNE Festival in Toronto, having had its UK premiere in the Raindance Festival at the end of 2014.
Producer Sam Robinson is "very proud" to see the film among only 30 entrants to the Canadian festival, which draws thousands of visitors per year. "Raindance was a massive start for the film as they only select 100 films but to be included among only 30 this time is really special."
The film, shot in York in 2012/13, follows the misadventures of accidental serial killer Rose Clements (Elaine Glover) and her long-suffering husband Dave (Phil Rowson) who is tasked with dutifully covering up his wife’s unintentional killing spree.
NXNE describes the film as having been concocted by a ‘mordant British mind’ and compares co-directors Tony Hipwell and Miles Watts to Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, indicating that this brand of ghoulish Brit humour will travel well across the pond.
The film will screen at NXNE this June, with tickets available from nxne.com/tickets. The filmmakers have hinted that it is not only in Canada that the general public will be able to see Whoops! this summer. More details as we have them.
