The New Chapter Arts Prize is an inclusive competition of art open to amateur and professional artists based in or around York.
Aiming to provide a platform to showcase the region’s pent up creative talent and hoping to reach out to artists old and new, the competition will run for three months and culminate in a exhibition for the ultimate champions.
One&Other and According to McGee have joined forces to launch the prize, with a view to making art more accessible, both in terms of participation and appreciation. As such, there is no entry cost whatsoever.
This year’s theme is “Hidden”. Alluding to our social aim to be part of the solution to alleviating poverty in the UK, we hope to inspire a wealth of different interpretations of the theme to bring the issue front of mind. Don’t worry about interpreting the thought behind the theme too literally, all we ask is you’re bold, original, and make it your mission to blow our socks off. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and us with your creation!
The art will fall into one of three categories: Painting, Photography or Illustration. So, for all the budding artists out there, this is your chance to really test your variation, or how to express your own style in a slightly different medium.
Each fortnight throughout the competition, the According to McGee team will be accompanied by a series of reputable guest judges to talk you through every step of the process, critiquing the entries to date and being transparent in their decisions as and when they are made.

THE PRIZE
The winner and first runner up from each category will have the amazing opportunity to exhibit a selection of their finest works in a group show at York’s most contemporary art gallery, According to McGee, in early 2012.
Overseen by Greg McGee himself and curated professionally, the selected artists will get the chance to be involved in all aspects of their own show, from the hang to the launch party, taking creative credit for what is sure to be a night aglow with talent.
