“I paint images of ordinary people in ordinary situations. They are people I see every day, on a bus, on the train, sat in a cafe in conversation, or simply walking along the street. I also use images I see in magazines or on the Internet. I have no idea who they are.” – John Wheeler
Using the drawings of ordinary, anonymous subjects to create work, Some People by John Wheeler allows his the artist to develop under the influence of past experiences with the intention of making the viewer create their own dialogue and connections with the work.
“I do not attempt to paint a likeness of the person I have drawn, but rather use it as a starting point for my paintings.”
Some People opens on Friday 11 May with a private viewing from 7-9pm at Bar Lane Studios, York.
