The York Spring Festival of New Music is one of York’s longest running city-wide festivals, having been in existence for over two decades. Based at the Department of Music at the University of York, the Festival brings both established and emerging performers together behind the beautiful back drop of the city.
The festival, organised by students of the University, compliments York’s profile as a ‘City of Festivals’ and though it’s varied and high-quality programme, enriches the cultural life of the region.
Running 9-13 May the event features a variety of concerts in venues ranging from the University of York’s concert halls to more informal surrounding within the city walls. There guarantees to be something for everyone’s taste with genres including jazz, vocal, contemporary classical and musical comedy.
The highlights of the 2012 Festival include the UK debut of the German ensemble El Perro Andaluz; highly influential vocal ensemble Juice; Roller Trio on the River Ouse; and Guardian columnist and presenter of BBC Radio 3′s ‘Discovering Music’, Tom Service.
