The Buccaneers formed in York in 2006 when Andre de Gaye (Guitar and vocals), Jonny Gatenby (Drums and backing vocals) and Leo Wild (Bass Guitar), would waste away their days jamming and discussing their shared passion for Rock ‘n’ Roll and Blues music.

As their friendship and passion for music grew they decided that they wanted to write their own songs and formed a band. With nothing but a passion to make music for themselves, they weren’t necessarily interested in playing to an audience but simply losing themselves in late night jamming sessions where they would experiment with genres ranging from blues to psychedelia. From these initial jams, a collection of original material was accumulated and the band began showcasing this with an array of successful gigs, which established the band as formidable newcomers on the scene.

The band continued from strength to strength headlining local venues Fibbers and The Duchess and successfully promoting their self-produced EP’s to an ever increasing and diverse fan base.

They continued to pick up pace and shared the bill with well respected artists such as 22-20s and Nine Below Zero, playing a range of summer festivals and pushing their music further into the public domain. It was at this time that their powerful live performance caught the attention of Nine Below Zero songwriter Dennis Greaves, who was so impressed by the band that he invited them to record at close friend Glen Tilbrook’s (Squeeze) London based studio. It was here that Dennis helped the band capture their live energy on record. Following this experience, the band began to increase their stature as one of the best young rhythm and blues acts around, all the while writing songs and developing their sound.. The band continues to peddle their soulful rhythm and blues sound around the country, winning over crowds and gaining new fans wherever they go.

Pop along to The Basement on 7th January as The Buccaneers prepare to launch the video and 7” vinyl single of “Don’t Breakdown”.
