Running from 14 September-16 November 2012 ‘Quilt City’ is an exciting new exhibition organised by The Quilt Museum and Gallery, York aiming to showcase an array of original and contemporary York-themed quilts in various locations around the city.
The exhibition, in association with the York 800 Festival, will feature in a number of locations across the city including Merchant Adventures, Purple Haze Vintage Clothing and York Cocoa House. Quilts will also be on display in The Bar Convent, lady Ann Middleton’s and Monkbar Hotels.
The project aims to educate residents and visitors on the fine art of modern textiling, highlighting the efforts that are put in by the quilters to create these unique masterpieces.
This innovative project also includes the work of two contemporary quilt makers have been commissioned to make new work for the city-wide exhibition. Linda Barlow and Alicia Merrett are to produce work exploring the contemporary and historical culture of York.
York is home to The Quilters’ Guild, an organisation boasting over 7000 members across the UK, existing to promote patchwork and quilting.
