Jim Cartwright’s 1988 play ‘Bed’ explores the topics of sleep, insomnia and growing old. Eight elderly characters ”relive their lives and evoke their dreams’. From 1986 he has produced ten plays, six films and has received five awards ranging from ‘Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best New Play’ to ‘Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy of the Year’.
Produced by the Old Bomb Theatre (the same people who brought you Pinteresque, Cigarettes and Chocolate and Waiting for Godot) ‘they bring you another intimate and atmospheric show, complete with specially composed music and a very large bed…’
‘The sheer exuberance and beauty of the writing and the piece’s urgent theatricality are difficult to describe… Cartwright (Two, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice) is a true original.’ – City Limits.
