A new production of Arthur Ransome’s beloved Swallows and Amazons is receiving warm reviews ahead of its cinema release on 19 August.
The big-screen adaptation of the bestselling classic, Swallows & Amazons is released in cinemas on Friday 19 August. The shoot took place during summer 2015 in Yorkshire & the Lake District backed by the Yorkshire Content Fund, so while the new adaptation of this much-loved children’s classic is set in the Lake District, a significant part of the shoot took place in Yorkshire.
Regional filming locations included Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, Plumpton Rocks, Stockheld Park, Heptonstall and Wakefield. Creative England provided crewing and locations support and help securing filming permissions.
The film marks the feature debut of acclaimed director Philippa Lowthorpe (TV’s The Other Boleyn Girl, Call the Midwife and Jamaica Inn), and adapted from a screenplay by Andrea Gibb (Dear Frankie).
The cast includes Rafe Spall as the enigmatic ‘Captain Flint’, Sherlock’s Andrew Scott as an agent and Trainspotting’s Kelly Macdonald as Mrs Walker, Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) as Mrs Blackett, Jessica Hynes (Spaced) as Mrs Jackson, and Harry Enfield as Mr Jackson.
